Inept

There was something wrong with the water.
That is the only explanation I can think of.

As a child, I spent a lot of time outside. I rode bikes, played in the woods down by the horse farm, played pick-up football with the kids from Vista Alto Apartments.
When I got old enough, I signed up for Parks and Rec Baseball and Football.
A year of tee ball, a year of Cub League. 2 years of Flag Football.

I was pretty good. Not great, but I could catch, I could throw, and I could run.
I was the pitcher on my Cub League team. I was quarterback on my flag football team.

No team I was on ever won a game. Ever.

Show me a good loser. I'll show you a frequent loser.

My teams would have me and maybe one other guy that could actually throw a ball more than 10 feet.

During one of my Cub games, the opposing team started the "2,4,6,8, who do we appreciate" chant in the 3rd inning, due to the inability of my team to field anything that came their way.

My interest in sports vanished.
At least, team sports.
I practiced martial arts, ran track and field. Individual sports. Endeavors where the responsibility was on me, and me alone.
If I lost, it was OK, because sometimes I won.

I think this was my introduction to the notion that you can't count on other people.

It was confined to sports for a long time.
I was familiar with the concept, so it was easy to adopt on a larger scale later on.

I would like to count on other people. I would like to assume that they can and will do what they say they will do.
I want to believe, again.

I'll never care about sports, but I think I am almost ready to count on other people, again.
